Summer Activity For Kids

Let's talk summer activities!

Do your kids love markers, glitter, glue and buttons? Do they love cutting out pictures?

Grab a stack of old magazines and ask your kids to cut out pictures of what summer means to them. They can glue them as a collage into a handmade book or on poster board. After they have created their collage, they can add glitter, stickers, buttons or sequins to the picture.

This is such a wonderful activity to beat the summer heat. Just grab a cool cup of lemonade and place all of the supplies in the middle of the table. Kids love lots of fun options so be sure to offer different magazines, paper options and extras.

When you give your children this activity, be sure to let them bring their unique ideas to the table. Trust me, their idea of what summer means to them may not be what you expect. I laughed to myself when I saw my son’s collage. I thought he would glue water toys and dinosaur pictures onto his paper. I was wrong, but isn't it so fun to see through the eyes of a child. There is something so unique and inspiring in every child. They all have such different talents, interests and abilities.

So 6 years ago when I asked my 2 youngest children to do this activity my son covered his summer book with….
Food. Burgers, hotdogs, icecream, you name it. His entire summer vision was food.

That was the beginning of a very large grocery list that is still trending at our house today with three teenage boys!

And I couldn’t be happier.
